FAA Part 103, allows an empty weight of 314 for amphibious ultralight helicopters. The XEL can be flown in the USA without a pilot’s license or medical. However, we strongly reccommend that the owner have soloed a certified helicopter before attempting to train in the single-place XEL. To encourage this, we deduct $2000 from the total price upon proof of this training. (All prices shown here include that deduction.)

Although we show the XEL anchored in the Santa Fe river, we strongly reccommend you do not attempt water operations in the XEL. Any motion of the water during water taxi maneuvers can easily result in a blade/tail-boom strike. The floats are intended for emergency use only. Experienced pilots suggest that float-equipped helicopters land and take-off on land. When the main rotors are secured by tie-downs, the aircraft can be safely moored on water.
